Jun 11, 2026 I’m excited to share with you two papers that I will be presenting next week. They are based on our HAVI Schmidt Sciences project, “Recovering Hidden Histories: Adapting Handwritten Text Recognition for Colonial Paraguayan Archives.” First, I will take part virtually in the “AI through History, History through AI” in Panel II: Decolonizing AI and Marginalized Archives next Monday, June 15, from 13:30 to 15:05 (Luxembourg time). I will present a a paper titled “Adapting AI for Marginalized Archives: Developing Handwritten Text Recognition Models for Colonial Paraguayan Manuscripts.” Second, I will personally present a paper titled “Sustaining Hidden Histories: Adapting AI Technologies for Colonial Paraguayan Archives” in Session 5A (Talks) – AI and Historical Archives at the UK-Ireland Digital Humanities Association’s Sustainability 2026 Annual Event at the University of Southampton on Tuesday, June 16th, between 9:30 and 11:00 AM (UK time).
Mar 19, 2026 I am thrilled to share with you that I have been invited as a guest lecturer at the University of Southampton to teach HTR and share the “Recovering Hidden Histories” HAVI project with the MSc Digital Humanities (Data Science) Students.
Feb 24, 2026 I have been invited as a keynote speaker and to co-chair a roundtable on Indigenous People and Religious Missions in the Abya Yala at the VI Congresso Internacional Mundos Indígenas (COIMI), taking place in Salvador, Bahia, Brazil, from February 25th to 28th, 2026, one of the most important international gatherings dedicated to Indigenous History in Latin America! I’ll be contributing to vital scholarly and intercultural conversations with Indigenous Leaders and academics on Indigenous resistance, colonial dispossession, and decolonial methodologies, drawing on my research on colonial Paraguay, Indigenous history, Slavery and AI-Digital Humanities. Jan 27, 2026 Thrilled to announce I’ve been selected as a 2026 Schmidt Sciences Humanities and AI Virtual Institute (HAVI) Development Award recipient! I’ll be leading “Recovering Hidden Histories: Adapting Handwritten Text Recognition for Colonial Paraguayan Archives” in collaboration with Professor Patricia Murrieta-Flores.
